The Outback Car Trek

The Outback Car Trek is an annual event that donates the funds it raises each year to The Royal Flying Doctor Service. The Trek has four guiding principles: 1. To have fun 2. To visit parts of remote Australia that most people only ever dream about 3. To have a significant social and economic impact on the towns we visit and 4. To raise funds for the Flying Doctor Service. Donations raised to date for the RFDS exceed $24,000,000 with a great many more $ millions raised for local groups, and spent in the communities we travel through. The event is for older 2 WD cars, in general terms for cars that were built before the Commodore and XD Falcons were manufactured - roughly pre 1978 vintage. Cars are specially prepared to endure the rigours of outback dirt road driving and are subject to a safety check before we head off each year. The Trek is normally 1 week in length and finishes on the Saturday night of the June long weekend each year. Each year the Trek travels a different route through some of Australia's most remote and isolated regions, spending time in towns and locations that most Australians only ever dream about visiting, and at the same time raising millions of dollars for the charity.
