Projeto Biodiversidade is a young Cabo Verdean non-profit association that aims to implement a wide range of environmental programmes that will contribute to the preservation and restoration of the natural habitats of Sal Island, to increasing the opportunities for sustainable exploitation of its natural resources, and contributing to the scientific knowledge of the natural resources of the island. As marine turtles are one of the most emblematic and threatened species in Cabo Verde, one of the key programmes of the association is the Turtle Conservation Program. Projeto Biodiversiade assumes the responsability of protecting marine turtles while encouraging community involvement and building the local economy in an environmentally sustainable way. Beyond the marine turtles, the association aspires to expand the scope of its activities and implement environmental programmes on related areas, such as conservation of marine, coastal and terrestrial ecosystems, natural resources and wildlife species, with a strong socio-economical component, designed to create sustainable opportunities for the local community, contributing to unite nature and the cape-verdean society and, as a result, to positively impact to the environment and the economy of the island.
