Founded in March 2017, First Light is a youth-led charity where over 350 members and volunteers are working together to improve the lives of orphans (including AIDS and blind and deaf orphans) and children in poverty through providing equal and quality education, organising psychosocial well-being programmes, youth development activities, and donations.
We have donated over $40,000 worth of stationery supplies, food, and toys to impoverished children around the city of Yangon and $6,000 worth of food and clothing for people in need who live in slums and rural areas of Myanmar. Also donated $1,500 worth of food, clean water, and relief aid packages which included rice bags, cooking oil, and instant noodles, to the flood-affected areas in Mon State in 2019. We have also organised 38 monthly clean-up events (with at least 400 volunteers per event), 5 feasts (for 30,000+ people), and 7 blood donations (for 1,100+ people). Implemented 4 youth development programmes and created one online volunteering programme to date.
We launched the "Little Flowers Project (LFP)" to give education access to impoverished and street children and to help them prepare for better lives. Created a warm space at a monastery for 60+ children where they can regularly meet each other, learn from volunteer teachers, dance, sing, and strengthen their abilities.
We have shared 150+ scholarships, fellowships, exchange programmes, and internship opportunities on our Facebook page, with an engagement of 2 million+ people, and helped 1,700+ youths with their study abroad plans and college and university applications since October 2020.
